Tech Review: Apple Reinvents the MacBook

Apple & Steve Jobs unveiled their newest "must have" tech toys today, and as expected, the MacBook got a makeover.

The big deal? They are thinner, lighter and greener. The screens are all glossy (the "matte" ones -- which I seem to like --are not in demand and thus have been phased out) and are made of iPhone glass. Imagine that. The body is made of a one-piece aluminum cast and is supposedly much sturdier. And Apple changed the internal chips over to NVIDIA over the Intel and cited better performance as the reason for the switch.

The price? Well, the run-of-the-mill, low-end (white) MacBook is a stunning $999.00, which is a reduction of about $200. The MacBook Pro (pictured above, courtesy of the Apple Store) STARTS at $1999.00 and goes UP from there based on a larger hard-drive or a faster processor.

So, you get to decide if you really need the newest gadgets from Steve Jobs right now in our credit crunchy economy. Of course, legions of Apple fanboys are already placing their orders online. This fanboy will NOT be, thank you so much. Not until my old MacBook meets a fiery grave, and by then, we'll be on the 20th new "refresh".
