Ding, dong the witch is dead...I'm estatic to announce that the pop reign of terror is over and "I Kissed a Girl" has finally released its grip on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Even better news is that our girl Rihanna has yet another #1 song. Adding another notch to her lipstick case, "Disturbia" jumps from #3 to #1, making her richer -- and hotter -- than ever, and giving her a 4th #1 single. The other 3? "SOS", "Umbrella"(ella ella ella), and "Take a Bow".
And, top it all off, former Rihanna #1 "Take a Bow" remains in the Top 5 at #4. Rockin'!
I'd say we're having a Rihanna-kind-of-week, wouldn't you?
Here are the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 singles:
5. Paper Planes - M.I.A. (16-5)
4. Take a Bow - Rihanna (-)
3. I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry (1-3)
2. Forever - Chris Brown (-)
1. Disturbia - Rihanna (3-1) [1 week at #1]
(Look Ma, no "Featurings" in the Top 5 this week! Shocker!)
Funny thing about #5's "Paper Planes" - isn't M.I.A. supposed to be retired? - it's featured in the credits of Pineapple Express. Go figure. That's how you get a hit song these days, folks. Movies or TV spots. Wonder if this UK girl will come out of "retirement" now that she's had the biggest US hit of her career?
Jordin Sparks' new single "One Step at a Time" is flying up the charts. Jumping from 31 to 24 this week, "Step" is bound for the Top 10 for sure.
Leona Lewis' "Better in Time" is picking up some chart steam. Leaping 12 spots, "Better" moves from 50-38 and lands her another Top 40 hit. I'm feeling some potential Top 5 action here, so we'll see where this single lands.
Just for fun: Failed pop tart starlet Jessica Simpson's country song "Come on Over" - which sounds in theory like she ripped off Shania Twain with that title - has failed to crack the Country Singles Top 10. "Over" is over and peaked at #18. So much for a country career. Isn't Waffle House always hiring?
