Walking With Fire: Lara Boyle on Twin Peaks

To all my fellow Twin Peaks brothers and sisters out there:

Lara (Flynn) Boyle is writing about her experiences with Twin Peaks and The Practice (which I did not like so much) on a blog, and it's great stuff. Lara talks about her life after graduating from high school and immediately moving to Hollywood the next day. Lara must have been wearing her lucky scrunchie the day she ended up at an audition where she met David Lynch and Mark Frost. Of course, being drop-dead gorgeous and 18 doesn't hurt your chances of scoring with a director, although her scoring was with Agent Cooper, Kyle MacLachlan, in real life (back then). I had no idea that she and he were involved. Or maybe I did back then and have forgotten. Ah, memory...who needs it?

I love the line where she muses about being naive about life and acting. Boyle explains that she went from high school to the cover of Rolling Stone in a heartbeat, thanks to the beauty that is Twin Peaks.

Furthermore, more than just reading about Lara's experiences, you get to watch both seasons of Twin Peaks online from the blog as well. Excellent!

Boyle will continue to write about the series so I will be reading and soaking all that in. Her writing is surprisingly good and fresh to me. It's almost as if we are privy to her secret diary. (Did you notice what I did there?) Except it's nothing like Laura's, but that's fine by me.

Even after 18 years, Twin Peaks still grabs me.

I remember hiding behind the couch near the doorway into the lounge when my parents would watch Twin Peaks; they'd long thought I was in bed. My Aunty (who was living with us at the time) caught me once and instead of telling my mum, would have me over for sleepovers in her room when it was on and we would watch it together.

My mother never knew until last year; she couldn't believe it!

Still my favourite TV show, possibly of all time. At least up there with Six Feet and Love My Way.
