No wonder the ratings have slipped to a 5 year low!
Simply said: Idol sucks this season!
Ok. I said it, and I feel sooo much bettah! Sure, this blog was the "Idol/Blake news source" last year. Not so this year, if anyone has noticed! I've been watching and fast-forwarding through the comments and such all season. Truth is, I have not been motivated, inspired, moved, whatever! by anyone on the show this season. (Yeah, I liked Brooke but knew she was not going to win. She did not have the fanbase that Blake did.)
Last night's show was nothing memorable, as usual. Jason Castro, the dreadlock-stoner guy, spectacularly flub-a-dub-dubbed his way through a Bob Dylan song. That David Cook guy, who I am getting so tired of his "holier than thou" image, blasé-ed his way through what could have been a show stopper, Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf". Instead, it was a "remove the synths and TRY to rock it out" version that we've come to expect from him. Syesha, who seemed more human last night than ever before, doesn't have the fanbase to pull through another week I'm sure. I was tempted to vote for her because she cried and appeared to be a human being last night. Oh well, would it have mattered? And lastly, David Archuleta, the Mindy-doo of this season with his "really? I can sing?" looks and schtick, is about as boring as they come. How can you take iconic songs (ELVIS?!) and make them a snooze-fest is beyond me. And yet, it happens every week, and Randy calls his performances "molten, exploding lava" or somesuch nonsense. Paula's mighty reveal last week when she stupendously reviewed a second Jason Cook song that HE HAD NOT SUNG YET clearly alludes to producer scripting or potential rigging. Big shocker there, right?
Anyways, I just thought I'd get that out of my system. Don't expect me to get excited about any of these losers, especially the one who "wins".
In other news, I'm sure Blake is on the road to losing his record deal by now, since "How Many Words" has not made the radio/popular splash we/Arista had hoped. That sucks too. Expect the "droppage" news within the next few months.
Like I said: Suckage.

there are a whole bunch of remixes available for Blake from next week, but with a lazy cover. Feel free to send them my way once you have downloaded.
And i've been on the outs with Idol apart from your Blake love last year. This year, I am adding David Archuleta to my popstars so cute they belong in a pound puppy kennel (along with Stiff...[same diff])
This is funny - I wrote this very same thing in a draft post last night. The life has been sucked out of that show. None of the current group is capable of becoming a star!
It seems I picked the perfect season to give up A.I. After the crap they pulled on last year's season finale, my mind was made up, that I'd never watch again. I think a bunch of other viewers did the exact same thing.
A.I. seemed to be rigged last year as well. For them, it was always about ratings and not so much about the contestants. And the commercials...geez, way too many!
So, I've saved myself the effort of continously hitting the FFW button on my remote this year, something I was guilty of doing during the judges comments last season.
Speaking of FFW...what the heck is up with blogger? I have pop-up protection, but so many blogs are being bombarded with pop-unders, and some of them are real nasty (both in content and effect). If blogger doesn't do anything about it soon, they'll be be headed to hell in a hand basket, and I will no longer visit blogs hosted with them. Talk about a major FFW.
ps - did you see how happy the dreadlocked dude was to be voted off. Practically giddy. I'm sure the producers were all "he'll cry any minute, stay with him!" Hardly the proper reaction to your "dreams" being dashed. He was shit tho!
Paul, yes! "Shooting the Tamborine Man" (lol) was his ticket out of the Idol madness. Jason did seem very giddy and *dare I say* happy to be leaving.
Xo, thanks for the shout out on your page! I feel like I just got an A on a paper! :)
Jeff, agreed on the rigging and waaay too many commercials! FFW is a MUST. BTW, I'm not seeing these "pop-under" windows?? Anyone else getting/seeing these? I am not aware of any popups on my site, at least, I haven't caused any on purpose. Blogger does seem to be inundated with spam and such these days so I do hope they act quickly to stop it. We'll see...
Very well-written post...and I think I agree with you--it's the first year I've not properly been following Idol. Actually, I've enjoyed reading about it on some blogs I regularly read anyway, but I don't watch it live--though that's for reasons beyond my control--and when I YouTube performances, I never watch all of them...and come to think of it, I've pretty much stopped even bothering to do that.
I thought the talk about "the weakest top (choose your number) ever" last year was way off, but this year...it's not compelling for me.
I am so with you on this! Unfortunately, Donnie is still into Idol and so is my bro-in-law, who is staying with us, so it's on our TV anyway.
The only left I like is David Cook, but it's only because he's the "least suckiest" of the bunch.
So sorry to hear about Blake's record deal. I was really pulling for him and still listen to his CD in the van!
